Li-Ion Battery Charger (MCP73832)

A compact, single-cell Li-Ion/Li-Po charging circuit based on the Microchip MCP73832. Includes thermal and over-charge protection, status LED, and EU supplier BOM.

This template gives you a production-ready Li-Ion charging front-end you can drop straight into your design. The MCP73832 is a highly integrated linear charge management controller that handles all the complexity of CC/CV charging with configurable current via a single resistor. The included PCB is a 2-layer 25×20 mm footprint suitable for integration into enclosures, handheld devices, and IoT nodes. Thermal pad placement, copper pour, and track widths are optimized for 500 mA charge current with <5°C rise at 25 °C ambient.

FAQ

What KiCad version do the files use?

All files are saved in KiCad 8.x format. They open in KiCad 7 with a one-time migration dialog.

Can I use the template in a commercial product?

Yes. Once purchased, you receive a perpetual licence to use and modify the design in any number of products, including commercial ones.

Are the BOMs kept up to date?

We review BOMs quarterly and push updates when components are discontinued or better alternatives become available. All updates are free.

What if my fab parameters differ (e.g. 4-layer board)?

The design notes explain which constraints are fab-specific. Upgrading to a 4-layer stack is straightforward and covered in the integration guide.
