3.3 V Buck Converter (TPS62821)

High-efficiency synchronous step-down converter based on TI TPS62821. Delivers 3 A at 3.3 V from 4–17 V input with >90 % efficiency. Layout follows TI reference guidelines.

Switching supplies are the most common source of EMC failures and headaches. This template takes the guessing out: the PCB layout already follows TI's published critical-path guidelines for the TPS62821, with bootstrap capacitor placement, tight switching loop, and solid ground planes. Output ripple is <10 mV at 3 A with the specified inductor and capacitors. The BOM provides a pre-screened component set from EU distributors, with equivalent fallback options for out-of-stock scenarios.

FAQ

What KiCad version do the files use?

All files are saved in KiCad 8.x format. They open in KiCad 7 with a one-time migration dialog.

Can I use the template in a commercial product?

Yes. Once purchased, you receive a perpetual licence to use and modify the design in any number of products, including commercial ones.

Are the BOMs kept up to date?

We review BOMs quarterly and push updates when components are discontinued or better alternatives become available. All updates are free.

What if my fab parameters differ (e.g. 4-layer board)?

The design notes explain which constraints are fab-specific. Upgrading to a 4-layer stack is straightforward and covered in the integration guide.
